No Snow
One of the kiddo's reminded me today that we have not had any snow this year. We have had a few dustings and there was one convective band that dropped a few inches about 3 miles to the east of here but other than the ice storm the kids have not missed any school and have not gotten to play in the snow. Models show a slight chance but this is way out and will probably not even occur. March is notorious for big snows here in Oklahoma but that usually has to happen in the first 14 days.

Next Sunday
Looks like we have a good shot a some storms on March 1st! Still seven days out and does not look like that big of a deal but I will take any convection at this point.

March
Only a few days left until March and that is usually when it is time to finally start getting a little excited about seeing storms. Upper pattern looks pretty crappy the first week of March but the 384 hr is showing a change and although this will change from run to run it does show a little promise.

2007 Chase

I have not done a chase video in the past few years but this year I decided to put a short one together for the video portion of the Skywarn event Tulsa has each year. Eastern Oklahoma had more rain/snow/flooding than severe last year so almost 80% of the content is from areas outside of eastern Oklahoma, even most of the lightning was shot western Oklahoma.

Non-Events
Decided to attend the skywarn meeting today in Tulsa and passed up the Texas chase and possible snow event out west which both turned out to be non-events. The storms down in Texas were really crappy and did not even have much in the way of wind or lightning, it almost ended up looking like an Oklahoma Moderate Risk. I did put together a short video for the skywarn event and will probably post it in my Video of the Month section for March. A chance of storms coming up towards the middle of the week so I will be watching to see how it works out. We have our annual meeting at the station on Thur but if there is a chance of storms I might have to skip out on it.

Mixed Weekend
Looks like we have a couple of different choices this weekend weather wise. A moderate risk down in Texas on Sat, Tulsa skywarn day on Sat and a Winter Storm out west. As of right now I am not sure which one I am going to go with but am leaning towards the skywarn thing and then just waiting to see whats happens around here. The Texas thing is a little to far for me but it is still very much on the table and will look at that option a little later tonight. Winter Storm out west is not very tempting because I am tired of winter but 4-6 inches does make me think about it.

Monday the 25th
Some winter weather is possible by the end of this week but I am not really interested in that stuff anymore. It could go either way right now and be a big envent or be a non-event. I got my hard drive installed and everything reloaded to my laptop which is a big relief and everything is running smooth on it. Looking ahead to the long range stuff there is a doozy of a system showing up around the 25th. Timing will surely change on it but it is something to watch.

Today
Normally I would jump on a setup like this with it being in a area favorable for chasing but my laptop hard drive gave out and is being replaced at the moment. With no way to edit and compress video on the road I will pass this one up and wait for the next one.

Interesting Week Ahead
Winter Storm Watch has been issued just to the north of here for possible ice accumulations. Not to excited about the slight risk they have out for tomorrow because the area of interest looks to be way south of I-40 and if anything does happen around here I won't be going to far with the possibility of ice.

Mon Storms?
Chance of storms Monday night and if this does occur this will be the third time this year we have had storms in NE Oklahoma. This would be pretty impressive considering I don't think we had 3 storm events during the entire spring of last year.

Yesterday's Storms
I was not able to chase yesterdays event which turned out to be a pretty big outbreak of severe weather east of here. 337 total storm reports which is almost half of what Oklahoma received for the entire year in 2007. 68 total tornado reports yesterday, which was very high considering Oklahoma has only had 69 total for the past 2 years combined.

First High Risk of 2008
I don't have the option to chase the high risk today but I might have time to head down to Sallisaw/FtSmith area to see if there might be a few hailers later today.

Tue AM

SPC's day 1 outlook has a slight risk but this is really more of a Day 1 + 23 hours type outlook. Storms will probably not go up until 4 to 6 am tuesday and most of it will probably be well east of here. It might be starting to become daylight when this stuff fires which elemenates lightning photography so I will probably sit this one out since I can't chase during the day on Tue. Still a small chance something could fire around Tulsa between 2am and 6am but cannont really count on that.

Storms Monday
Slight Risk did back a little to the west but this is probably going to be a late night event and the best severe chance will be to far east. I will probably just stay in Tulsa and hope for a good lightning show over night although there is still a slight chance I might head to Ft Smith if things start to look a little more interesting. I do not have the option of chasing Tuesday's setup.

Mon PM/Tue AM
Monday it looks like temps here will get to near 70 ahead of an approaching cold front. As of now SPC has a slight risk east of here but I imagine by the time Monday gets here Tulsa should be included in that and it could be a late night Monday going into Tue. I got a couple of good lightning pics for January and it would be cool to get a few for February.
